As we age, we start to lose volume in certain areas of the face. This can make us look tired and sunken. This is mainly caused by fat pad facial volume loss, changes in bone structure and retaining ligaments coupled with the body’s decreased ability to produce collagen and elastin. Some of the first and most noticeable areas to loose volume in our face is in the mid face or cheek area and around and under our eyes. At London Lip Clinic the most suitable type of filler for this area is JUVEDERM VOLUMA. This cheek augmentation injections contain lidocaine to ensure patient comfort throughout the procedure. In addition, like lip fillers injections are administered using a very fine needle or cannula so discomfort is kept to a minimum. This treatment takes just a few minutes to complete and patients are able to return to regular activities as soon as the procedure is over. Cheek filler injection provide pronounced effect in the treated areas and considerable duration of beautification when injected into the deep mid facial fat pads. BEFORE CHEEK FILLER TREATMENT
The first step is to have a consultation to determine your suitability for the cheek filler treatment by looking at your medical history. A treatment plan will be drawn up. In the 7 days prior to the procedure, you’ll need to avoid taking any blood-thinning medications, such as aspirin and ibuprofen. If you’re on prescription blood thinners, let us know at your consultation. We shall give you additional guidelines for how to prep for your filler appointment.
DURING CHEEK FILLER TREATMENT
The area to be injected (injection site) is cleaned with an antiseptic and marked using a marker pen to decide on the optimum site for enhancement. Our preference is to inject cheek filler using a fine, blunt micro-cannula to highlight your cheek bones. The cannula is inserted into a small needle hole in the cheek. The cannula can then be positioned into the areas to be treated. Being blunt-tipped, it will tend to weave through the tissues and move structures such as blood vessels aside. This will reduce the risk of bruising as well as arterial injection of filler. JUVEDERM fillers is injected very slowly. We aim to inject the Cheek filler higher up in the cheek. This gives the cheeks a lifted and more youthful appearance. Careful attention is paid to the aesthetic changes occurring in the high cheekbones area. We aim to create symmetry of the cheeks, even in the situation where the cheeks are not symmetrical naturally.
AFTER CHEEK FILLER TREATMENT
Immediately after the cheek filler treatment do not, touch your face, press, rub, or manipulate the area for 6 hours after treatment. During the first few days after an injection, you should avoid sleeping on your cheeks. Try to sleep facing up, flat on your back. You may also want to avoid strenuous exercise, sun and heat exposure until the filler has completely taken its shape, 48 hours after the injection procedure. Avoid cosmetic treatments such as laser, ultrasound, peels, facials or micro-dermabrasion for 2 weeks after treatment. After your cheek filler treatment at London Lip Clinic, we shall email you a full aftercare procedure for you to read at your leisure.
ARE CHEEK FILLER SAFE?

Cheek filler can be used for:
- Replacing lost volume as occurs with ageing or weight loss – loss of cheek volume may contribute to flattening of facial contours. Fillers can be used to restore this lost volume.
- Enhancing cheek volume to improve facial balance and proportions – the volume of the cheeks may be depleted in comparison to other parts of the face. Cheek fillers can help to volumise and balance the cheeks in this situation.
- Support of the lower eyelid – volumising the (upper) cheek can improve the appearance of the lower eyelid. As the cheek loses volume with age, support of the ligaments of the lower eyelid is lost. Filler placed just under the lower eyelid in the upper cheek helps to support the lower eyelid. This reduces the appearance of eye bags or under-eye hollows.
